Over the weekend I presented to physicians not only the health benefits of a plant-based diet, but also how they, too, can communicate this to their patients. Needless to say it was an honor and one that I truly thought I’d never see.

Better known as Silicon Valley in St. Louis, World Wide Technology is a force here in the Midwest. They have always recognized Earth Day, but this year they decided to have local "green" companies in to teach their employees how to better their carbon foot print. I gave a couple of food demos and engaged in a lot of conversations.

In November 2018, I was invited in by St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis to present on food, nutrition and how a plant-based diet plays a significant role in reversing Type 2 Diabetes. You can imagine how this sort of thing may not be the norm for a major hospital system and it was quite an honor to bring this information to their audience.

On November 1, 2018 I had the pleasure of being the first guest presenter at the beautiful Allegro Senior Living Community in Richmond Heights, MO. I spoke with the Aging Life Care Association. Many of these distinguished ladies and gentlemen are the decision makers for independent and assisted care aging communities where all too often nutrition can fall off the map. In my Food as Medicine presentation, I shared how it is never too late to introduce whole, plant-based foods into the diet to see reversal of common chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease.

In November of 2018 I teamed up with Devyani Hunt, MD and presented foods + recipes that aid in lowering inflammation. The event was put on by PEAK Sport and Spine Physical Therapy. This event sold out quickly and we had quite a crowd on a snowy night in St. Louis. This just goes to show the demand there is on inflammation lowering foods and the education around it.

For years my friend, Dr. Jim Loomis, Medical Director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), and I wanted to collaborate on a project and during a lunch meeting while he was in town, I told him it was time St. Louis to host a plant-based event. Since 2011 I have been educating our community on the health benefits of a plant-based diet and it was high time we invite the plant-based pioneering researchers and physicians to our great town to share their information with us. And that's just what we did. On Saturday, July 14, 2018, the Plant-based Nutrition Summit unfolded in incredibly eloquent fashion to a sold out crowd at the prestigious Washington University. Thank you to all involved who helped us put St. Louis on the plant-based map!
